![]() This is a point of contention I’m currently having with myself as well but I do believe that they are also the key to discover recipes through experimentation. These typically function in recipes as a fluid though blood can act as an essence. There are restrictions in that powder specific and liquid specific ingredients can only become those. Four goos of the same type can be processed using the alchemical machines into a fluid, essence, powder or liquid. These are strictly speaking failed alchemy products but in some ways are the most basic alchemical ingredients. There may also be gold and silver, among others. Off-hand there is at least ash, white powder, electric powder, graphite powder. The third category is powders, which has all the standard aspects, but expands on that with other particulates. That is health, toxic, life, death, chaos, order, acceleration and slowing. While essences are a tier two ingredient not needed for tier one recipes like fluids it is composed of only the standard alchemical aspects. So I’m going to write out my current understanding.Īlchemy has 2 sets of standard ingredients fluids and essences. Just not the specific recipes more the list of products by work bench and the methodology. That said my memory is a bit fuzzy so I’m looking for a refresher. I recommend reading this book, especially if you are a screenwriter. There is no question that McKee loves story, knows film and theatre intimately, writes well, understands screenwriting as a specialized form, and has a lifetime of experience to back up his writing advice. His “Chinatown” example of writing from the inside out is brilliant (pp 154-176) and shows his writing technique to its best advantage. ROBERT McKEE: I read Robert McKee's book, “Story.” It's a good book with lots of great story examples. Both Hauge and Vogler are good speakers and communicators. Their story paradigms appear to be very different but are surprisingly compatible. Having these two story guys working together was very interesting. The production values of this DVD were fair. MICHAEL HAUGE: I watched the DVD, "The Hero's 2 Journeys," by Michael Hauge (Writing Screenplays That Sell) and Christopher Vogler (The Writer's Journey). Syd comes across as warm and authoritative. SYD FIELD: I watched Syd Field's video, "Screenwriting Workshop." It's well made for a talking head instructional video though the opening music is cheesy. The following describes my research for each author’s work with a few personal comments added. Each has written books and lectured widely on the subject of story and story structure. ![]() I chose to compare the Dramatica theory of story with the story paradigms of six popular writing gurus: Syd Field, Michael Hauge, Robert McKee, Linda Seger, John Truby, and Christopher Vogler. There are dozens of “how to” books on story structure, especially in the screenwriting field. Contact information is provided at the end. I’ve tried to be as objective as I can and I’m always interested in feedback and notices of errors and omissions. I’ve also included an overview of the source materials, some initial observations, and a summary at the end. I’ve divided the results into four major topics of comparison: Story Throughlines Hero, Protagonist, and Main Character Character Growth and Resolve and Plot Structure. ![]() ![]() Originally written as a series of articles, I’ve reworked my findings into this single paper. It was past time that I figured out how other story theories are similar and dissimilar to Dramatica, why they are different (assuming they are), and what those similarities and differences mean. I figured my understanding of Dramatica was mature enough that I didn’t have to worry about "contaminating" it by exposure to the competing theories. In 2006 I decided to lift my self-imposed ban. As co-creator of the Dramatica theory of story, I didn't want to influence my development of Dramatica so I avoided direct interaction with competing theories. I spent nearly sixteen years avoiding reading anything of substance by (Hollywood) story theorists such as Syd Field, John Truby, Christopher Vogler, Robert McKee and others. How and Why Dramatica is Different from Six Other Story Paradigms I’ll tell you that once I started running drills and training with my can on my SBR’s I did not want to run it any other way. With the AAC, their Blackout brake is substantially higher than their FH, which is why I suppose you get a free FH with the can.Įven so I only run brakes and so I recommend brakes. I have also read some research to support this, and it does make some sense to me in my limited scope of knowledge. I don’t know if that’s quantifiable, as I’m pretty new to suppressors, but this is what I was taught, by someone who has used them much of his military career and also as a civilian. I believe - at least with my AAC can and AAC Blackout brake, that the brake acts as a baffle of sorts and can extend the life of your can. So, what would you all recommend for each? Obviously, I'll need to purchase two muzzle devices (in addition to the one that comes with the can). However, until I put some rounds downrange, I won't completely write-off marrying it to the 16" carbine. Outside of plinking/range/training the intent is to let it live on the 10.5" AR. If I stick with purchasing the YHM Resonator, the can will primarily see use on: No price difference, and both options are QD. The real question I have is, what type of muzzle device should I go with? The YHM cans come with the buyer's choice of either a FH or MB. However, I'm open to hearing any opinions that contend otherwise. For just a little more cash, the versatility of a. I'd initially planned on the YHM Turbo, but am glad I waited. ![]() I'm fairly set on a suppressor selection the new YHM Resonator. It's a bold message to package in a AAA game, and it feels similar to the one found in the acclaimed Spec-Ops: The Line. It appears the nuclear conflict is inevitable regardless of the player's choices too, meaning their actions throughout are rendered pointless. The ending suggests a lot of death could have been avoided if The Rookie had just backed down. Another issue is that the game - which features shooting and violence as a central mechanic - essentially appears to be judging gamers for playing it that way. That said, Far Cry 5 teases this ending throughout, from Seed's many doomsday speeches to radio reports about tensions between America and North Korea. When LOCK_ESCALATION is set to AUTO, concurrency increases by allowing the SQL Server Database Engine to lock table partitions at the HoBT level instead of at the table level. Because these dependencies form a cycle, there is a deadlock between transactions T1 and T2.ĭeadlocks can also occur when a table is partitioned and the LOCK_ESCALATION setting of ALTER TABLE is set to AUTO. Similarly, transaction T2 has a dependency on transaction T1 for the Supplier table lock resource. In the illustration, transaction T1 has a dependency on transaction T2 for the Part table lock resource. In an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, sessions can deadlock when acquiring non-database resources, such as memory or threads. The waiting thread is said to have a dependency on the owning thread for that particular resource. If the resource being acquired is currently owned by another thread, the first thread may have to wait for the owning thread to release the target resource. For example, a thread in a multithreaded operating system might acquire one or more resources, such as blocks of memory. Deadlocks are sometimes called a deadly embrace.ĭeadlock is a condition that can occur on any system with multiple threads, not just on a relational database management system, and can occur for resources other than locks on database objects. Deadlocks are resolved almost immediately, whereas blocking can, in theory, persist indefinitely. Eventually, the owning transaction will complete and release the lock, and then the requesting transaction will be granted the lock and proceed. The requesting transaction is blocked, not deadlocked, because the requesting transaction has not done anything to block the transaction owning the lock. ![]() By default, SQL Server transactions do not time out, unless LOCK_TIMEOUT is set. When a transaction requests a lock on a resource locked by another transaction, the requesting transaction waits until the lock is released. The application with the transaction that terminated with an error can retry the transaction, which usually completes after the other deadlocked transaction has finished.ĭeadlocking is often confused with normal blocking. This allows the other task to complete its transaction. If the monitor detects a cyclic dependency, it chooses one of the tasks as a victim and terminates its transaction with an error. the SQL Server Database Engine deadlock monitor periodically checks for tasks that are in a deadlock. This condition is also called a cyclic dependency: Transaction A has a dependency on transaction B, and transaction B closes the circle by having a dependency on transaction A.īoth transactions in a deadlock will wait forever unless the deadlock is broken by an external process. Transaction A cannot complete until transaction B completes, but transaction B is blocked by transaction A. Transaction B now requests an exclusive lock on row 1, and is blocked until transaction A finishes and releases the shared lock it has on row 1.Transaction A now requests an exclusive lock on row 2, and is blocked until transaction B finishes and releases the shared lock it has on row 2.Transaction B acquires a shared lock on row 2.Transaction A acquires a shared lock on row 1.Understand deadlocksĪ deadlock occurs when two or more tasks permanently block each other by each task having a lock on a resource that the other tasks are trying to lock.
